Justin Coffeen spent his first clinical years in practice rather than research. He worked as a chiropractic physician from 2013 to 2017, concentrating on sports injury management and rehabilitation, and during the same period worked in a medical chronic pain clinic where he instructed physical rehabilitation and conducted Functional Capacity Evaluations.

He spent those years in a classroom as well. Justin Coffeen covered anatomy, physiology, histology, and pathology as an instructor at Life Chiropractic College West between 2013 and 2016.

Military Service

In 2017 he joined the United States Air Force, serving in a medical unit until an honorable discharge in 2020. What he took from it was less a skill set than an operating standard: procedures exist because somebody mapped what happens when they are skipped, and readiness is a continuous state rather than something assembled before an inspection.

Clinical Research

Clinical research came next. Justin Coffeen started in orthopedics, where the functional measures and the patient population lined up with the work he had been doing in practice, then moved into oncology and later hepatology. He carries IHI certification in Good Clinical Practice.

His interest sits in the distance between what a protocol specifies and what happens in the room with a participant. That gap is where documentation quality, adverse event reporting, and participant-reported outcomes are actually decided, and it is the subject of most of what he records here.

Education

He holds a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine. His undergraduate work was a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, covering human movement and the physiological basis of physical function.

Outside Work

Justin Coffeen lives in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, where he runs regularly, reads broadly, and travels when the schedule allows.
